Sunshine and Tropical Islands in Lubben, Germany

After spending the morning with Bruno and packing up, we said a sad goodbye to him and set off. We only had a leisurely hour and a half journey down to the Spreewald area south of Berlin and the sun was shining! Once we had got out of the Berlin traffic the scenery soon changed to large banks of forests, with the sun streaming through them and travelling through small cute german towns. We got stuck on the outskirts of Lubben for a good 15 minutes, but apart from that, it was an easy journey. There were also lots of other bikers out enjoying the roads.

We stayed in central Lubben, just off the cobbled town centre square at a local ‘pension’- guesthouse- Pension Am Markt. We ended up with a decent size room, with its own sofa/table, kitchenette and bathroom. Much better than we were expecting. In the afternoon we ventured out to look around Lubben, grabbing lunch at a local deli. Stumbling our way through ordering we came out with a bagel, panini and 2 ice teas- a bit of a treat on our budget, but sometimes you have to. We sat both in t-shirts and shorts eating a delicious lunch in the sunshine in the marketplace of this quaint German town.

We lucked out with the weather and took advantage by exploring the Lubben's canal ways and parks, wandering over its little small bridges before grabbing cheap local beers and sitting like teenagers in the park drinking them. Afterwards, we headed back to do some more editing and to counteract the expensive lunch ate noodles and currywurst from saucepans as there were no bowls!

The following morning we were up and excited about the day as we were heading 20 minutes down the road to Tropical Islands. This is an indoor waterpark/rainforest/ holiday and beach destination all inside a converted blimp hangar. And it was amazing, exactly as described. Hot and humid like being on holiday with a full rainforest complete with flamingos, parrots, terrapins and a butterfly house. As well as a tropical sea with a beach, a lagoon and an outside amazonian area.

There were also several large slides and lots of small slides, which were a lot of fun! We spent our time going around all the slides (apart from the really tall fast one) and water attractions, then chilling on the sunbeds for a while before getting drinks and lunch. Then we just repeated it all again until we were done and needed to head back on the bike. It felt like a mini holiday, inside our much larger travels.

Due to being very tired from our fun day out we went and found a local pub in Lubben to have dinner- Kino Klaus. Local beers and ridiculously sized schnitzel later and we were incredibly full. We headed back to the hotel to pack up ready for moving on in the morning and to sleep as we were exhausted! Next, we are travelling down to Hrensko in the Czech Republic, a new country!

Thanks

Alex
