Our last week in Seremban at our housesit was generally much quieter. We had done all the things locally that we wanted to do. We still had a few day trips we had intended to do like the Eco tourism centre and Jerom Toi waterfall however the aircon in the car gave up and we didn’t want to travel 45mins-1 hour without air con or with the windows fully down as the weather kept changing dramatically being sunny one minute and pouring the next!
So instead we used the week to get on with lots of tasks. I received my old passport and marriage certificate in the post in the hopes that I could fly to Singapore before the end of our time in Malaysia and transfer my NZ working holiday visa to my new passport. This meant booking an appointment, booking flights there and back whilst we were still in Malaysia and filling out the transfer paperwork. We also had to book other flights from our next destination so that we would be let in as well as booking pre-departure antigen tests and arrival PCRs. After our next country we also wanted to tour around in a van in NZ so we started putting out feelers about this on some facebook groups and getting some pre-checks done on some options which was exciting. We also used the time to get well caught up on our videos and blogs.
In between all the admin we did try to get out for walks going back to Iringan Bayu wetlands, s2 city park, where we watched the terrapins and s2 hill park. This gave Dave a chance to practice his drone skills in different locations and for us to get different perspectives for our videos. We also headed back to Bandar Sri Sendayan sports field in the evening in an attempt to watch the sunset. The sunset never really came but Dave did get some cool shots on the drone from the top of the hill. It was also interesting to see the park at this time of day as it was heaving with people and life. There were lots of people walking/running for exercise, people skating on the skate park, teams playing football, people playing cricket and lots of people looking out over the view. We had to leave after a few minutes though as Dave was being eaten alive by mozzies, they have found him really tasty in Malaysia!
To break up some of the days we also visited more local coffee shops. We checked out The Coffeeholic in uptown where Dave chose his coffee beans for a v60 coffee and I had a latte. We also treated ourselves to NY cheesecake and Almond Tiramisu which was basically lunch that day (50 MYR)! On another day we went back to Toast House, this time to sit in, have curry buns for lunch as well as flat whites and to try some of their exquisitely pretty cakes. Dave picked Tiramisu and I picked opera cake, both of which were fantastic (54 for all). Of course we also went back to the Vietnamese place we like for take our Vietnamese coffee, although it had gone up to 6MYR each, so slightly less of a bargin than before.
We of course used it as a great opportunity to have more delicious Malaysian food, alongside having noodles to try and make our money last! One evening we weren’t sure what to get and ended up ordering a whole feast of Malaysian food from Daniya. We tried their Rojak, which was much tastier than the previous one we had, Murtabak, Naan with their sauces and chilli chicken all for 35MYR delivered. Another evening we order some juicy tandoori chicken, alongside another rojak (converts now!) and tandoori chicken is always something we will miss, the best ones we have had have been in malaysia. When we couldn’t get what we hoped for from s2s food court for lunch one day we stumbled across a pork version of the dry noodles (which are actually in thick gravy). Although not as tasty as the beef ones they were still good and only 14MYR for both of us. We also tried some BBQ pork filled Chee Cheong Fun (5.5.0 MYR) which were nice but not as good as other ones we had had. We also bought more coffee buns from various places, making the most of being able to get these. From Smashed and Stacked in Centrio we also got more juicy burgers- both opting for double patties this time, and they were just as good as before (28 MYR). For one last time we also ordered the sweet and sour pork from ss5 food court in centrio (16 MYR) and one last Nasi Kandar from An Nass restaurant.
Our final day with Coco we had our usual coffee on the porch before making sure everything was clean and tidy and all the washing was out to dry in the sun whilst it was out. Whilst we had the car we moved all of our stuff into the Rivero hotel for the night before grabbing more local pork buns to have for lunch back at the house with Coco. Originally our hosts were expecting to be back at around 5pm as they were driving over from Singapore. However they got stuck in endless traffic jams crossing the border so they finally arrived back to the house around 9.30ish. That just meant we got to walk Coco one last time and ended up ordering food to the house for dinner. Coco was fast asleep when they came back but was happy to see them when she realised what was happening. We caught up for a bit over a beer before they dropped us back at the hotel and we said our goodbyes.
We have enjoyed our time at this random housesit in Seremban, Malaysia. The house has been a lovely place to relax, get on with work, cook and chill out. Being here for so long has allowed us to catch up on videos and blogs, read several books/mangas, watch several TV shows and do lots of admin. We have planned our next destination booking flights, hotels, a car in one part and planning the full itinerary. We have also started planning for our next adventures after this. Coco is a really cute dog and has been very low maintenance being content with short walks, lots of fuss and tickles on her terms, treats and time to herself. There is definitely not endless to do in Seremban and living somewhere where it is difficult to just walk around has definitely not been the most enjoyable. Having the car has been a must so we could access things further afield as well as just local places to eat/ shop. Despite this we have had some really fun hikes in places we would never have been if we hadn’t been housesitting. The food here has also been very varied in terms of cuisine and style, being very delicious, although we have been glad of the kitchen as everything is a bit more expensive in Malaysia than Thailand and we have been in desperate need to also eat vegetables that have been difficult to get when out! From our housesit we have a couple of nights in KL, where I am actually heading to Singapore for a day on the side quest to sort my NZ visa transfer. This will all be in the next blog!
Thanks
Alex
