Stretching our legs on local Seremban walks and swimming at Sajuna beach

We ventured back into Seremban city to check out Tamin Tasik park- or seremban lake gardens. This was a peaceful park with a large lake, a bit run down but with an interesting mosque as well as sri mariamman style. We had a slow mosey around the lake just enjoy a gentle stroll. To extend our walk I had found an AllTrails walk that took us away from a park past a mall, through the local neighrbourhood and back by another park. We were pushing it with the weather as it looked like it was going to chuck it down as we made our way along the narrow path, that was barely a path alongside the main road. We did eventually reach centre point mall, which initially looked like it might have some bits to actually look around as the entrance had a more modern look. However after wandering around for a few minutes it was equally as empty as the other malls apart from a few generic restaurants. As we were hungry and hadn’t had lunch we grabbed some chicken strips from KFC to tide us over and drinks from 7/11 to cool off. Then it was back to walking along the road and through some of the quieter neighbourhoods. We eventually went down through another park with a lake in it, very similar to all the others and were then back at the car. Not a particularly exciting or interesting walk but it got us outside at least! In the evening we headed out to Daniya for some chicken murtabak, there was a very long wait as it was heaving but it was worth the wait!

The next day we spent the morning doing bits for our next destination and working on blogs/ videos. We fancied getting out though and knowing there was a small park and shop on the otherside of the road from the house we crossed the main road and made our way through the local park. It was nice and peaceful but with an incline at least to make us feel like we had moved a little bit. After having been in for the rest of the day we went out to Restoran An Nass in Centrio for dinner. We had ordered food from them quite a bit and it was always tasty but we had never been to the restaurant. We had a lovely sunset over the carpark as we sat outside and had delicious and huge portioned Biryani with curry chicken (30 MYR all together with drinks).

We fancied going a bit further afield the following day so thought we would check out Port Dickson and a nearby beach. Port Dickson waterfront had nice views of the sea and a small walkway along the coast with a few restaurants/bars/coffee shops, most that mainly seemed to open in the evening. There was not a lot to see or do so we cooled off with iced frappes and cake in the waterfront McDonalds (34 MYR).

From here we made the 20 minute drive along the coast to Sajuna beach. This had been recommended to us by our house sitting hosts as one of the nicer beaches in the area. It had decent parking, food/drink stalls lining the carpark and was a long stretch of golden sand. The water was relatively calm but not clear or blue. As we walked along it was nice but there was quite a lot of debris and some rubbish clearly washed up by the tide and likely following recent thunderstorms. It was very hot but we really fancied going for a dip. We went to a more secluded section of the beach between La Playa bar and one of the fancy resorts where we would be less on show- I always wear a rash vest and swimming shorts in Malaysia to be a bit more conservative and respectful with the high muslim population but it always feels a bit weird. We got nice and toasty in the sun before making our way into the water. It was lovely to cool off but definitely not the nicest sea we were in. After drying off in the sun, as the sun was starting to get lower in the sky we made our way back to Seremban 2 in rush hour traffic. If you are ever in this area this beach is nice for swimming and chilling and looked like it would have a great sunset. La Playa bar came highly recommended for cocktails and sunset but we couldn’t stay that long with Coco needing to be walking and having dinner in the evening. Instead of expensive western meals at the beach we had dinner in a local chinese food court (s-Nine) finding huge, delicious portions of wanton mee and BBQ pork for only 7.50 MYR each.

We attempted to go out to find more Rojak (a local malaysian dish) for lunch the following day however found that the restaurant we had chosen was only doing Nasi Kandar. After we had waited in the sun for a while to be told this we gave up and instead went to check out the food court in the local Mydin mall. We struck gold here trying some different dishes from Fatima Chew Street. We had Char Koay Teow Penang- which turned out to taste very similar to Pad Thai but with prawns and muscles and we also had a Penang style Chee Cheong Fun which had fish balls in it and a thick rich almost plum sauce (8.50/ 7.50 MYR). Both were fantastic and after an unexpectedly good meal we were ready to go shopping for food and snacks before heading back to the house to work on more blogs and videos.

It had been a nice mix of chill days and local walks which has become the structure of our weeks whilst housesitting in Seremaban. Next blog we will head to KL for the day as well as more local places.

Thanks

Alex
