When we found out there was a music festival in town the same week we were there, we thought why not for go it despite the expense and check it out for a unique experience. The Rainforest festival also happened to be at the Cultural centre, meaning we got to check this out at the same time. We grabbed the free shuttle bus for the 40-minute ride out towards the coast.
The festival had a great fun vibe with different cultural music from around the world, different workshops with activities related to health, yoga, cooking and arts/crafts.
We explored the festival, which was set out around a lake and in all of the traditional Malaysian bornean tribal longhouses. There were traditional percussion bands, yoga, lots of traditional outfits and a range of street food options. We had some banh mi (10 MYR), culupong ice cream (5MYR) and oreo and seasame gelato (8MYR). We attempted to try some yoga in one of the longhouses but couldn’t squeeze in it was so jam packed so we got a nice cold beer instead whilst we soaked up the atmosphere.
We did make it to the noodle pulling workshop though where we got to see a master noodle make hand pull dough in gorgeous noodles, then got to have a go ourselves, its much harder than it looks! We found some dumplings and settled down to listen to a range of different music playing before getting the shuttle back to the city.
